Andrew Gapinski is Director of Horticulture at the Arnold Arboretum and has led its horticulture team since 2013. He earned his BS in horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his graduate degree in public horticulture from the Longwood Graduate Program at the University of Delaware. Previously Andrew served as a horticulturist at The Morton Arboretum and as director of horticulture and curator at The Arboretum at Penn State. At the Arnold, Andrew directs efforts to steward some 16,000 accessioned plants cultivated across the Arboretum’s 281-acre landscape. In his role, Andrew has led or participated in domestic and international plant collecting expeditions and currently serves as Chair of the North America-China Plant Exploration Consortium. He has also been instrumental in developing and directing the Arboretum’s Landscape Management System initiative, a multi-institutional coalition to develop and share new technologies toward more informed collections management decisions at plant collecting institutions worldwide.
