Leo Lovemore, Ph.D. (they/them) is the Librarian for History, Society, and Culture at Brown University Library. Prior to joining Brown, Leo worked as the Metro Boston-based Research Scholar for the Recovering New England’s Voices initiative at Historic New England. In their role at Historic New England, Leo explored libraries, archives, and other historical collections across the Metro Boston region to recover marginalized voices and experiences that revealed deep—and often concealed—linkages between race, enslavement, gender, sexuality, disability, and indigenous history within the context of New England and the Caribbean. Leo has taught undergraduate courses on race, gender, sexuality, art, and culture at Rutgers University. They served as research and editorial assistant for Dr. Kyla Schuller, where they worked on the manuscripts, The Trouble with White Women: A Counter-history of Feminism (Bold Type Books, October 2021) andThe Biopolitics of Feeling: Race and Sexuality in Nineteenth-Century America (Duke University Press, 2018). In 2019, Leo was awarded a Ph.D. with distinction in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Rutgers University. Leo also earned an M.A. in Humanities and Social Thought from New York University and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College.
